This is my take on the Briminator, I call it the BH (Bead Head) Briminator. I have tweaked the original just a bit to suit my needs in Southern California. Thanks to Wayne and others for turning me on to this fly.

5/32 shiny black bead head and #12 2X long hook to start. I don't have good luck with Mustad (especially the signature fly hooks) I had this box for a while and got lucky enough to get all 50 in the same size and shape AND none snapped in or on the vice. :bananadance:

Ok now on to feathers. You can go to S-Mart in the craft section and get a bag of craft feathers for $2.00 or go to the fly shop and get a #1 Hungarian Partridge for $$$.

You get different shapes, sizes, and colors and there cheep.

With a hole bird you can tie dozens of the same size and color.

I start by putting bead head on the hook and clamping it in the vice.

I then choose a feather. This is one from the S-Mart craft bag. I divide the feather into three parts.
Image

#1.) I pull the fluff (CDC like fluff) off one side and tie it in as a short bushy tail.
Image

#2.) I CUT the fluff from the other side and use it as dubbing. Half a side should dub the hole body.
Image

#3.) Grab the tip top of the feather and stroke the rest back.
Image

Put the tip top of the feather against the dubbed body and tie in the feather. Wrap the feather around the hook 3-5 times.

Whip Finnish twice and your done.

This is a quick easy tie. You really can't mess this fly up, the uglier it is the more fish like it. It's also nice on the wallet. I have Personal best Trout, Blue Gill and Bass on this fly. I do use a heaver rod with this fly, but it's fun to fish the 2wt. every once in a while.

Nice. Streamer-isih, nymph-ish, flymph-ish. Hook, bead, one feather and thread. Simple fly. I like. And I have a partridge too. :D

But uh, how do you fish it?

Trout- I High Stick or Czech Nimph with a #16 Copper John about 12-18" off the back.
Green Trout- Cast to shore and strip it back out, drift it, troll it, as it's sinking.

I like it! That is just using all parts of a feather... Thanks for sharing that.
