There has never been a better time to give public input and to get involved than now. Among many things, the plan specifies that dispersed camping may be ended if damage to the environment continues, campgrounds may be expanded, new ones built, some areas closed, interpetive stations installed during Holiday weekends, sanitation facilities installed (toilets), and many other good things. It's also a good educational document about the area.

I've posted on portions of this plan before and the Forest Service is paying attention to people who care enough to write letters and be involved. It's nice to know that they're acknowledging some of the problems. The river will be better experience for the people who truly love it.

thanks

Shane,

Thanks for posting this. I am very glad about the direction of this. I would be more than happy to put forth a few days when I can to help in whatever way possible, even if it's just using my pickup to haul trash. I read through, and didn't recall seeing any contact info for who to contact to get involved. Do you have a specific person/group that letters/emails could be addressed to?

I really appreciate you sharing this with us, and think it would be beneficial if you can keep us in the loop as far as progress and any volunteer opportunities. I read that guzzlers are desired... I know a few on this forum that hunt and would be more than happy to volunteer with that. My brother Chris (Rubikinda) has been on many excursions in SoCal volunteering his time on guzzler construction and knows quite a bit about it.

Thanks,

Craig

What the heck is a Guzzler? I had to look it up

The Guzzler
guz·zler /'g&z-l&r, / noun — a man-made catch basin designed to enhance natural waters

Wildlife guzzlers ---- contraptions that capture rainwater and melting snow in remote places for thirsty animals to drink

My guess they should've already been in place as a mitigation measure for all the water taken from streams like Salmon Creek and others where the water is taken directly into the flume and doesn't reach the river.

Shane, Thanks for keeping us informed. Best part of what you do is making it easy for people to at least send an EMail to those making the decisions on what is to happen to our natural resources that are valued so much by so many and respected so little by a few.
BYW, there are other definitions for GUZZLER:
1. A place for hunters to park the RV and wait in a lawn chair for the Chukar to show up for water. :fireangry: :fireangry: :fireangry:
2. Raider sitting on a stack of cold Fat Tire :bananadance: :bananadance: :bananadance:

The first clickable link didn't work for me. The second link worked, but I'm not sure they are the same info. Anyway, after briefly, browsing, it looks like some very good language is in there. I'm not sure where to send/email comments, but I'd be happy to.

I fixed the link. Thanks for the headsup!

The plan is an overview of all the other plans on the table. We're not in a public comment period but general comments can be sent to either office and the will be forwarded to the proper supervisor.

Isn't it Salmon Creek coming into the river just downstream of the parking area for the Salmon Creek Falls trail? I've fished some stream/river confluence there on many occasions and always thought it was Salmon Creek? :?:

That's it. They divert water out of it by the flume. Prime spawning potential robbed for river fish.
