Surf's Up!

Surf Fishing School
August 5 and 8, 2010
Join us for an in-depth class on fishing our local surf conducted by ace surf angler and fish bum David Wratchford. David will present a concise and informative class on the when, where and how of surf fishing our SoCal beaches.

The class, which is limited to 6 anglers, will be at 7-8pm at the shop on Thursday, August 5 and will cover the fish species that you are likely to encounter, knots & rigging and the necessary tackle required. On Sunday, August 8 we will meet @ the beach from 6:30am until 10am to cover reading the water, retrieves, casting and hooking, fighting and landing fish in the surf zone (hopefully). We will also cover safety, selecting flies and best times to find feeding fish on the beach.
We have hundreds of miles of beach close by with lots of different species available on a year round basis and this will help dial you in on how to find them.

Class fee is $50, which entitles you to a 10% discount on any gear needed for the class, and you will be entered to win a dozen surf flies and a fly box. This class will fill up fast so don't wait to register.

Just an update. We had a decent number of fish caught considering that most of the people in the class had never fished the surf at all. Two of the folks with the least experience even got a Corbina! I tried to explain that this generally doesn't happen and they may go quite some time without another. All in all a very good session on the beach with some very eager new surf fly-fishers pictures to follow soon....
