Where were you?

I had a great story written out, lost it so all you get is this:

When I arrived, before dawn, the water was silly with these things. I lost 4, caught 3 more and only took photo's of this one.
Oh yes, Tim came over and introduced himself, but then disappeared down the beach. Wish you had stayed.

Must have been a hoot on a fly rod, congrads. I believe (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) this is their making babies time of the year. When the horny time hits, they head to even shallower water than they usually frequent. Which ought to mean a happy time for surf fishing junkies.

I only have tuesday and wednesdays. Same place as before. It was an amazing sight. Once the sun pecked over the hill they retreated.

Could be but I think that there are so many sandcrabs in right now that food is the motivating factor.

Awesome pic of an awesome fish. I've never caught one on a fly rod, but I can only imagine how hard that thing fought. Like unskunkable mentioned, there does seem to be an inordinate number of crabs out this year. I was at Carlsbad yesterday (south of the Academy) and there were so many crabs, it was tough to walk in the shallow water without getting poked by them.

Wow, can't imagine fighting a "sand tractor" on fly gear. I had a * of a time landing one like that on spinning gear.

Congrats to both of you! I was at the beach last week and considered doing some fishing. But then I remembered that whole time of day deal ("Once the sun 'pecked' over the hill they retreated") and thought better of it.
