Easy-Access Yellowstone

So we have a family vacation coming up to Yellowstone in a couple weeks. Will be camping at Grant Village June 19th-25th.

Wondering is anyone has any easy-access/family friendly/low hassle little creeks or streams to suggest? not looking to turn family vacation into a "FISHING TRIP" but more just take some time away to get a bit of fishing in. I'm happy to trade some of the bigger-fish of the main rivers for less people, smaller water, etc... also considering seaon/runoff/etc...?

Grant Village is somewhat a ways from good fishing (unless you want lakes) but the Firehole River, Nez Perce Creek, and the Lewis River are some of my faves in that section of the park. But I much prefer the NE corner of the park for fishing, but that's quite a drive. And you must fish the mighty Yellowstone River, just because (although that may not offer solitude).

With fishing bridge closed, reservations were really hard to come by. We'll do our best. Again, will be some sneak away fishing on a family vacation.

I'm headed that way in July after the GTW jubilee. Planning on the fishing NE corner, but I'll be entering from the south, so not sure how best to access that area. It looks like a heck of a drive from the South Entrance to the Lamar River area, so I'm not sure of my plan for tackling YNP as of yet. Good luck, will be interested in what you find, please post up any details.

There are a bunch of road closures in YNP at the moment. Checking this site and calling ahead will preclude a lot of disappointment:

I did very well on the Shoshone River on the east side of the park. We camped outside of the park and I fished most mornings and did well.

Prepare for a long drive. A long slow drive. Add a time cushion for "local traffic" (buffalo).

Yes, that's the one big, big issue in my plans. Of course, there's lots more areas of Wyoming to explore if I change my mind.

Gardner River was easy access when we stayed in Canyon View area. Small but plentiful brook trout above the slide area, Osprey Falls. Meadow area good for young fly fishers to catch fish on dry flies. Larger fish, all types, below the falls. Takes some bushwhacking to get into & feels like bear country down below falls.
Drive time and traffic much better than going to Lamar area. Recommended to me by older gentlemen/fly fishermen working fishing department at store at Canyon View.
