Check with your local fly shop. I think there's a club in Bakersfield too.

You can also search the Federation of Fly Fishers website for Certified Instructors in your area. I searched 'Bakersfield', 'California' & 'United States'. That turned up one listed instructor.

Here is a link to the page for the search:

Rick's right too. Your local fly shop and or local club are great places to start.

There is a member of this forum that offers casting classes. Ming Moua.

I think you'll learn a lot from him, in just one session.

Excellent point, Brian. Ming is an excellent caster and a great guy too. You could absolutely learn a lot from him. I have. Not enough, but a lot.

You can go to the local fly fishing club, join and get casting instruction there for the fee of membership. Make sure there is a casting instructor in their membership.

The Kern River Fly Fishers meeting is Wed. (tomo) at the Norris Rd. Vet's Hall. I can help you get started even though I'm not "certified". I'll be there one hour before the meeting and the best part is that it is free. Anything free is worth saving up for! Post a reply here and I'll be there at 6:30.

Brian Adams heads up the mentor program and they are meeting Aug. 19th at 6:30 at the small lake at Hart Park. The lesson for the night is mending, which is the real secret the catching fish instead of just casting. They will move over into the river shortly after everyone arrives, so if you are a few minutes lake be sure to look for them in the river just north of Mirror Lake.
