Re: Hello..

Haliwhat? http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k185/anacrime_photo/Halibut37in-19lbs.jpg Hooked on tube, landed on beach. Not fly caught unfortunately, but caught on an artificial lure. At over 19lbs I don't know what I would do with a fish like this on a fly rod. Where are you from? I might be able t...

Re: Not fly fishing, but interesting/funny (challenge for Ryan )

Yeah. Could be. I was reading, a very little bit, about Koa. Seems there is another variety called Koai'a which is supposed to be noticably harder and more dense than Koa. Still, not owning a lathe or any of the tools it is not something I would tackle. But an interesting possibility nonetheless. I ...

Re: Not fly fishing, but interesting/funny (challenge for Ryan )

Wow, that is a real beauty, Ryan. Congrats on scoring that for such a deal too. Just kidding about carving it up for reel seat inserts. ;) Though that Koa looks like it would make nice ones. Such a warm color to it and the curly grain in fantastic.

Yeah, Koa. Can you imagine the reel seat inserts you could make from that?

Re: Improve your fishing pictures tutorial

If you guys like those, you should look around the photography section of the forum there. Zach, the forum owner, is a writer for American Angler and a published photographer. There are quite a few pro photo guys there. Lots of discussion and many examples of fly fishing and hunting photography. Tha...

Re: Alarm fear in fish?

Yeah, I definitely know they can smell. I still talk to people who don't realize they have noses, but you can see the nostrils or equivalent just in front of their eyes. In this article found on MidCurrent.com Zach Matthews talks about carp and the alarm pheromones they release in addition to a bunc...

Re: Alarm fear in fish?

I have not heard that about Trout, but have read/heard that, if while stalking carp you spook one fish in the pod, even if the pod is not tightly spread, the entire pod will be put down. This was supposed to be due to pheromones. Good info Ariel. Since finding that out about carp, I have often wonde...

Re: Reel for my 0wt

Cool. Zooming in I can see how that piece fits in place. It still amazes me how many ways people have come up with to reverse the direction on fly reels. :D

Re: Reel for my 0wt

Shane, I do not know this reel, but it looks, mechanically, a lot like the Pflueger 1492 which is not reversible. Of course you could flip it around and fish it reversed if there is an opening for the line on both sides. You just would not have drag to the fish. My buddy uses his 1492 that way on hi...

Re: Can you identify these bugs?

Cool. First try got 73%. So yeah, I could do some homework too I guess. Tool quite a while to find the correct answers fot the ones I missed. A few look like nymph forms but are listed as larval forms. :(

Thanks

Re: Looking for fly rod advice

Sasha, I think I would talk to Mike (Riverphish) about this. I know he makes down to a 2 wt boo stick. Unless there is a bamboo rod builder here, Mike would definitely be the most knowledgeable person I could point you to. Concerning the boo anyway. As for the TXL, well come on, you already know you...

Re: Screen Names

Well, I was CreekWalker (that's what I did when fishing after all) on another board, though not a fishing one. It was a board for prepress techs in the printing industry. I was going to use it on flyfishing boards, but the first one I signed on at, the ItinerantAngler board has requested that all us...
