Re: To Float or NOT to Float...

I love float tubing San Diego Bay. I've been doing it since 2008. What a relaxing way to fish the bay. It's a relatively cheap way to fish the bay. Of course, I pick the time (almost always early morning mid-week) and the place (dependent on wind and tide change) to avoid most boat traffic and condi...

Re: Wigged out... (a vent session)

It might be hard to dial up something BIG for you on Wednesday. I test fished an area I like (Tidelands Park in Coronado) this morning. It was a quantity not quality type of day. I did have 41 fish to hand in a 3.5hr session but the biggest was 10-12" and the distribution was skewed to the 6-7&...

Re: Montana / Colorado boy new to Southern CA(INTRO)

Welcome aboard. As you have discovered, San Diego is a tough place for a dedicated dry fly fisherman to live. It's a long was to any decent trout stream. Lots of water to fish up in the Bishop/Mammoth area with the Lower Owens being a prime destination in the winter months. Slightly closer to home i...

Re: A GREAT float tube/belly boat

I use an Outcast Trinity Float tube in the bay. I recently wore out my original Trinity Float, which I've been using in the bay since 2008, and liked it so much I bought another. The new one is slightly different, mostly the style of stripping apron. However, I seem to sit about an inch lower in the...

Re: Fighting butt question..

Do I really need a fighting butt? I prefer a fighting but on 8WT and up, or on long rods down to 6WT. I have several 9' 6WTs with fighting butts too, but I don't recall ever needing the butt. Probably reflects the way I fight fish. As for butt-hooked fish? I break them off the moment I see they're ...

Re: Just retired, time to get back to flyfishing!

Congratulations on your retirement. It's the best job in the world. It comes with 52 weeks of vacation a year! I retired a little over 4 years ago with absolutely no regrets. Enjoying each and every day. I live in Poway and get my fly fishing fix in by going to the beach or taking my float tube down...

Re: To Dry Fly or Die?

I do love to see the rise of a trout to take a well tossed dry fly. Who doesn't. However, since moving down to the San Diego area 4 years ago I haven't had much opportunity. Due to family situations almost all of my fly fishing is done on day trips and there just isn't much water to throw dry flies ...

Re: Car Camping: Shower, Wash, Rinse, etc.

Bob - the RinseKit did it's job this morning. What a great tool for rinsing sand off of legs, booties and feet when I finished up a surf fishing session. I'm very happy with it's performance. Was nice to have some water under pressure to clean up with after surf fishing. Sure beat my previous soluti...

Re: Car Camping: Shower, Wash, Rinse, etc.

I got the same RinseKit for Christmas. I'll be using it to rinse sand off following surf fishing sessions. Especially useful now that most SD public beach showers are turned off to conserve water due to the drought. Looks like it might get it's test run tomorrow (Weds) morning.

Re: Best dozen. Addicts best four.

For the smaller stuff: Winston BIIt 8' 3 wt..... I went fishing with Richard Cullip a few years ago and he asked to try mine out; for a few minutes there I didn't think I would get it back. I think he bought one that very same day when he got home.....
