Re: Greetings!

I was wondering about that fish too. At first I thought it was snakehead, but was not sure if they'd made it that far north. When you showed its mouth a bit, I decided it must be something else. Thanks.

Re: New Fly Shop In San Diego

Nice to hear Kory is opening up out here. I've been buying flies from theflystop.com for maybe 5-6 years now and have been pretty pleased. Good for him!

Re: Greetings!

Welcome, Nick! Great videos! Gotta like when two things you enjoy meet and the results work out so well. Looking forward to more from you. It's always great seeing what fish others are chasing.

Re: Lotsa rain!

I've no idea how much we got last night, but it did not deliver much snow up high. I checked web cams at Shaver and Hume Lakes this morning and no snow. Hume is considerably more full than yesterday though. I did not get to bed last night until about 2 am. The rain started here around 1:30 am. It wo...

Re: Great Site!

Welcome! If you like tying, be sure to check out our Today's flies from the bench thread. Many here have shared there, and learned there as well. Be warned though, if you intend to go through the entire thread, it is currently 69 pages long.

Re: Is the Site Slowing Down?

briansII wrote:Yes, the forum seems quiet. I assume it's related to time of year, and low water conditions across the state. I'm still getting out every free weekend I have, but my results are nadda. I'll post something today.

Re: Which knot do you use?

A double surgeons knot is an overhand knot with an additional turn, a triple has one more turn. A double is usually considered very weak. A triple is far more reliable.

Re: Which knot do you use?

I don't know Mark. I call them wind knots just because that's what they're called. Indicators or bobbers. I gave up cigarettes 5 years before I started with cigars and pipes. I gave those up 13 years ago. Never tried e-cigs/vaping. McDonald's over sushi, every time. Unless there's something better, ...

Re: Went Fly fishing, Caught a Great Horned Owl!

Stunning creatures! Those eyes at the 30 second mark were all "One more step and I'm eating whatever bit is closest buddy!". The next shot was all disbelief that you took another step.

Good for you in trying to help. I hope it turns out OK.

Re: Which knot do you use?

If dry fly fishing, especially in situations where very delicate presentations are required (which is rare for me), I use blood knots exclusively. But there's a trick that was told me a few years ago. If I am nymphing or throwing streamers, I use triple surgeons knots. The reason for the blood knot ...

Re: The most innovative fly rod........

I went to the Arctic Silver website to get a little more info. Looking at the vid, the grip looked like it might allow the rod to flex thru the grip better and according to the website, that is the intent. Supposed to allow better power loading of the rod due to no glue and with less effort. Interes...

Re: The most innovative fly rod........

Funny how they hype the crap out of it without saying anything of importance about why it is supposed to by better. The funky new fangled grip must make it better. Hmmm. There may be something to this…you might want to tell Randy about it.
