Members' Bio: Where'd you come from?

I was born in SoCal and lived here most of my life except a few years in the Bay Area. I grew up fishing Lake Casitas for Bass, Bluegill, Catfish. I became interested in fly fishing at Lake Shasta on the Pit River when I was 10. I did not have money to take it up until I was around 19. I started fis...

How not to catch and release!

Do all the fish you catch and release survive? Tight Lines ... Fred I thought the % is in the 90s, would be higher except for people who C&R like that. I enjoy when I catch the same fish over and over, and it gets bigger each time. I like my trout released, I am always amazed on small creeks in...

Lens color

I used to buy Ray Bans in grey and amber polarized, but since I now must wear progressive glasses, my optometrist hooked me up with polarized, progressive Maui Jims in grey and they're great for fishing. I expensed them thru my work as"safety glasses" allowance. This year, my allowance wi...

Re: Favorite Line Weight???

4wt is my favorite. I have a 7ft bamboo, 8ft and 9ft graphites. 4wt handles my small creeks, up to Owens, Hot creek. It will do ok during light winds, unlike my 3wt rod. My smaller 4 wts are still fun for smaller creek trout.

Re: Simms RIVERSHED™ BOOT Cleats/ Studs or ???? New boots??

Great link, nice to find so much info in 1 post. I am realizing I need a pair of felt boots again, there are a lot of situations where the Vibram soles do not cut it.

Re: November Photo Contest

Here is my submission, not nearly as great as everyone else's picture. Plus it is just from my iPhone. Same area as Papasequoia, it just looks like he was further north.

Re: New Fly Rod Opinions?

I would agree with a 10' rod. I have played around with my friend's Hardy Marksmen and Greys Streamflex. I like the Streamflex for price to performance. I have only tested out the 4wts for Czech Nymphing. I wish I had a 10' for UO yesterday, that extra reach would have come in handy to keep fly line...

Re: My Secret Spot is Gone!!!

I fished there in the late 80's I remember trout 12-14inches 1.5 mile hike. I had forgotten about Hopper creek, I normally fished Sespe north of Santa Paula and Piru creek back then. It was a shorter hike to fish Hopper creek then Sespe.
