Metal sliding band reel seat is typical for older rods. The tip top may be be off a bait caster from yester year and not intended for a fly rod. Looks good and straight. Judging by the hardware I would venture it is an older rod. That being said, I would doubt it is a 2/3 weight rod. Try tossing a 4...
I'll throw is my $.02 worth. Ya ya I know, expect change. I will minic what already has been said. He paid for his license and didn't break any laws, he is entitled to keep the fish. He is within the law so he shouldn't be beat up for his choice. Now poachers, that's a different story, get a rope :g...
"Nativist" I like that one Papa :D . Had to look it up. I guess if not wanting to pay for people who are getting free services, from my tax dollars, without paying their fair share makes me a Nativist. So be it, I am a Nativist. Although, reading the Wikipedia definition I am not a true Na...
I didn't really see any advantage over traditional fly fishing. I am trying to figure out the statement about casting 25' to 30' across the creek that would be fairly impossible to do with a traditional setup. It would be handy to carry on a back packing trip. Then again I am up for any fishing that...
I carry both a Ketchum Release and a net. Depending on the situation I will use the best option. The Ketchum Release doesn't work too well on the itty bittys but, will work great on slightly heavier fish. Alot if times I will just use the wet hand release with my hemostats. I fish everything barbles...
HA!!! DUH . I should have known that. Its what Mike StClair used on his silk lines. Geez I seem to have my head up my a lot lately. Too many projects and no brains. Bad combo.
As soon as you figure out what to dress the uni-thread with for floatant please let me know. I tried everything on it and still couldn't get it to float the way I wanted it to. Next method may be water wings. That is one of the reasons I went to 2 lb. mono. Who knows maybe I wasn't using uni-thread....
From what I can see looking at the utubes showing twisted leader construction, the twisted leader is a straight leader. The furled leader is a tapered leader.
Here you go the perfect deal. Catching a wild fish on a fly you tied attached to a furled leader you made, tossed with a rod you built. For me it is either a Bamboo or Fiberglass rod I built. Next thing you know I will be buying or making the jigs to made my own snake guides and a lathe to make my o...
You will love casting them. Even the leaders that look bad will turn over great. I was teaching a friend to cast last night and these leaders made me look like God's gift to casting. I used my Nit-picker to make the loops on the first couple of leaders and finally settled on whip finishing them. Jus...
Lesson to be learned from all this: Kiss a Trout, Bass or even a Bluegill but, never ever, ever kiss a Carp, they're just nasty. Who knows who's lips they have been kissing. Yuk!!!!
Bah, what's so good about it? I am stuck at work instead of fishing, tying flies or building rods . Oh wait, I did wake up and I'm still breathing, that's a start
I cut the eye off a large hook, filed off the barb and clamped it in my tying vise. Fold the leader a round the hook to form a loop. The hook is just used as a anchor point to keep tension on the leader as you wrap it. Hold the leader and the extra from the loop in one hand to keep tension on the le...
