Easy-Access Yellowstone

So we have a family vacation coming up to Yellowstone in a couple weeks. Will be camping at Grant Village June 19th-25th. Wondering is anyone has any easy-access/family friendly/low hassle little creeks or streams to suggest? not looking to turn family vacation into a "FISHING TRIP" but mo...

Re: Small Stream Leader

Bernard wrote:- Unless you are fishing with a rod under 6 feet, I see no need to have a leader longer than the rod. Again, keeping in mind that this is all about small stream stuff.

I agree with that: a leader/tippet combination about the same overall length as my rod is sort of my benchmark.

Re: State considering "putting a halt to fishing"

It is a tough thing right, because fishing/hiking itself is obviously pretty minimal risk. But very few do those things only... fisherpeople travel usually a distance from home, they stop for coffee and lunch, they meet up with their friends, they visit gas stations, they stop in for bait and tackle...

Re: Small Stream Leader

Re: Small Stream Leader

I mean, I have long been a fan of about a 4-5' furled leader + tippet on small streams - Usually about 12" of 4x and 18" of 5 or 6x. I am not actually a fan of the stortest rods - i find my 7'10" rod a lot easier to use on small streams than my 6'6" rod, because the length helps ...

Re: Posts

I'll be the first to admit that mostly... its just that I haven't been fishing much between work, kids, sports, etc... my solo hobbies get crowded out.

Re: Braided line.

Re: Photobucket changes

You just need to resize before upload. I use a free program called "light image resizer" that plugs into windows shell and can bulk-resize and rename. http://www.obviousidea.com/windows-software/light-image-resizer/ I think there is also a change to forum settings that could automatically ...

Re: Marmot EOS 1p at Campsaver.com

Good price, but for the same or less weight you could do a tarptent double rainbow... and sleep two. Again though, good price.

Re: Suggestion

Facebook is absolutely garbage for meaningful conversation. HST uses Facebook to surface interesting forum posts, and outreach, but not to replace the discussion. That seems to work OK.

Re: waders

Honestly, I will go against the grain here and say that for small creek, I absolutely LOVE wearing waist-high breathable waders. They are not much more hassle than wearing pants, but provide nice protection from kneeling on rocks, streamside nettles, and cold feet. I am a big fan. I prefer waist hig...
