Re: Critter Spotting

Yes, there is a difference between heavily utilized areas and more remote locations. Unfortunately, the heavily utilized areas may need restrictions that the lower utilized areas do not. And I support those restrictions. I'm not hiking on the public county trails for the time being (way too many peo...

Re: Lockdown Posts

Well, since almost all of my pics are on Photo#ucket (with their lousy degradation), the few I have uploaded on IMGUR will have to do. https://i.imgur.com/sN5O0cD.jpg https://i.imgur.com/cVkSQ6B.jpg https://i.imgur.com/M5HCe2l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SJbxCes.jpg

Re: Critter Spotting

As far as Bernards OP, up here in the bay area, the wildlife has mostly disappeared, due to the huge increase in human usage in the county park I live next to. I hike the trails there most every day (over the past 35 years) and on a "busy" day I used to see 2-4 people, pre-COVID. Most days...

Re: Critter Spotting

My son is a biologist on the Trinity River, and they just had the fly fishing only section of the Trinity open 1 April. It was a zoo (as expected on opening days) with little "social distancing" being practiced with the majority of the anglers coming from the Bay Area (a COVID hotspot). Ne...

Re: Posts

I agree with Luc. I have not been posting reports of late simply because I have not been fishing, not because of lack of interest or Facebook. I thank all of you that have been posting over the past months as I have been living vicariously through your reports. So keep 'em coming and I promise to do...

Re: Looking for a little help

Too many choices! North Fork Yuba, Middle Fork Feather, and Little Truckee River are the most famous. But most every creek up there has fish. A little early for Lake Davis at the end of August. With the big winter we had, all of the little streams will be fishing well up there at the end of AUG.

Re: Inflatable Raft/Kayak recos

If I were LA based (EEEEEEWWWWWW!!!!), I'd think seriously about spending money on the float game. Not much moving water available down there. I grew up in LA so I feel your pain!

Re: Inflatable Raft/Kayak recos

Rak, it sounds like you're where I was 25 years ago in regards to things I wanted to do fishing/floating wise, and your ideas are on the right track. Here is a slide show video I did a few years ago showing one of my inflatables and what we're doing with them. https://animoto.com/play/dZ3qqmoNIcXVYJ...

Re: Inflatable Raft/Kayak recos

I'm lucky, I'm a former NPS Ranger trained in SAR and river rescue, and Chris is a biologist that floats rivers for a living and has a whitewater certification, technical river rescue training, and is a certified Wilderness First Responder. So we have plenty of experience on flowing waters. But if w...

Re: Inflatable Raft/Kayak recos

I have a bunch of experience in inflatables, having owned numerous rafts, and pontoons, and a ton of whitewater experience. Personally, I would not recommend any of the inflatables that you listed, if you're serious about a light whitewater capable inflatable for two people. For lakes/stillwater the...

Re: Self Inflating PFD

WOW, Jim, that's really sad to hear. The thing is, he brought up a couple of valid points that were valuable to the discussion, but he ruined his own credibility by launching into personal attacks and spewing venom to any one who disagreed with him.

Re: Self Inflating PFD

Thanks Jim. That's why this is one of the few forums I regularly post to. The vibe here is just so friendly and cool with none of that other trolling/nasty insults that pervade other forums. I'm glad I caught myself before I inappropriately responded, and just responded the way I did. I don't care i...

Re: Self Inflating PFD

<<<The inflatable vest is placed over your head after deployment, so you will still ride face up.>>> Not if you're unconscious or hurt bad enough to be unable to pull it over your head before you drown. Like Hank, I had a friend almost drown with the waist belt type PFD. Sorry, not a fan of that typ...
