Re: Hi-Viz Question

Good stuff. Thanks everyone for all of the info. I kind of figured the color didn't make a difference to the fish, but it's good to have some anecdotal evidence to support it. Thanks, Papa for all of the links, too.

Hi-Viz Question

I've been reading a lot about Hi-Viz patterns on different sites, and have seen several reports of guys using Hi-Viz flies. My question is: Does the use of Hi-Viz coloration/materials have a negative impact on the fish being interested in the fly, or can the fish not "see" the bright color...

Re: I've been wasting my time !!

Doc I've been chumming for years. I habitually throw dry flies onto the water and into the trees in the hope that a trout will take it. I've also been known to throw a loaded fly case full of dry flies into the water only to watch it float away. I never thought to use the slingshot though. I wonder...

Re: Members' Bio: Where'd you come from?

These rods didn't have any guides or a reel. Basically just tied a leader onto the tip of it with a hook on the end. Nice! That's exactly how I got started on the Sierra streams (except it was a 10 foot cane pole). I'd dig around in the stream bed or in the bushes and look for anything alive that I...

Re: Want a New Float Tube

Dan- I picked up a Creek Company ODC 420L two years ago, and I have loved it. The specs say it can hold up to 300lbs. I've weighed as much as 250 while using it, and I've always felt very stable it it. I'm sure there are some more expensive models that sit a little higher, but I actually like the fa...

Re: PFD

I did not realize how bad it was this year till I read this article.... http://www.bakersfield.com/news/local/x965389881/DYING-IN-THE-KERN-RIVER-Drownings-up-75-percent-this-high-water-year Very sad article. Obviously it's a very tragic situation when someone drowns, and you just wish people would ...

Re: Where were you?

Awesome pic of an awesome fish. I've never caught one on a fly rod, but I can only imagine how hard that thing fought. Like unskunkable mentioned, there does seem to be an inordinate number of crabs out this year. I was at Carlsbad yesterday (south of the Academy) and there were so many crabs, it wa...

In case you haven't already looked into it, check out this link... http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/parks/Camping/info.html

I've never stayed at any of these parks, so I can't give you any suggestions, but good luck.

Re: I SCORED TOO!!!!

I just went to the San Marcos store and picked up a pair of boots at 50% off the already marked down price. Ended up being $60 for the same pair that I spent $100 on a few months back for a friend. Couldn't pull the trigger on any rods, but they had 2-10wt TFO rods for the 40% off deal.

Waterproof Digital Camera Suggestions???

As an early birthday present, I've convinced my wife that I should get a waterproof digital camera for my fishing exploits so I don't have to use our normal camera when I'm in my float tube or wet wading. Any suggestions from some of you who use them? I'm looking for something under $200 (if that's ...

Hey fellow addicts. I've really enjoyed learning from this site and its great members. I'm hoping to be a solid contributor.
