Re: DIY Fly Rod Mount

Might cost a bit more, but there are surfboard rack pads that come covered in fabric, might be a better solution than tape or Plastidip. Of course the fabric will likely be susceptible to UV rays if left on the car. They attach with velcro so easily removable. $18 for a pair is not that bad. https:/...

Jim,

Yes, the one off Amazon that you posted, thank you!

Is that the same as a "cow hitch?" ;)

Re: Question about my new $10 Tenkara Rod?

John, Glad to hear. I also just picked up a Tenkara and plan to bring it up the opener. I'm just a beginner with the rod but might help you out in a few areas. First, I don't think you want to use the 3wt line. I purchased a couple of light furled leaders about 1 1/2 times the length of the rod. Th...

Question about my new $10 Tenkara Rod?

Okay, I got my Tenkara rod, interesting little toy. There is a single red line at the tip. I have a length of 3 wt. level line and leader. I have a short length of backing with a loop tied to the other end of the level line. The rod is 270cm (8'6"). I have a spare spool for stowing the rig as w...

Re: The ten dollar Tenkara Rod

I just pulled the trigger on one, for $8, what the *!

Looks like I can use a piece of old line and a leader and good to go. Looks good for small creek work and near shore fish.

Re: Turd Clumps

I don't know. I think juvenile white seabass are called turd rollers, or something like that.

Re: Advice on Off Road Rescue Gear

I bought a scissors jack instead, and have several 2" x 10" x 16" boards I can stack and link together for getting it close to a lift point. The bottle jack that came stock is woefully short as well. I got a Viair 85P high volume inflator, couple bottles of Slime, and a plug kit, so n...

Re: Advice on Off Road Rescue Gear

If you haven't left yet, Global Rescue! :bananadance: Especially in boonies and Mexico! Hope there's cell service! :oo: No, not till week of April 10-14. I know I called the rancho a couple weeks ago so not sure about cell connection or landline, but who knows. I'm obviously hoping cell towers some...

Re: Advice on Off Road Rescue Gear

I am not an avid off road guy but driven 4wd vehicles since the service. I see the hard core guys with at least two spares in the back of the truck. That would give me two shots before I had to learn how to plug a tire. Not sure if that is an option for you but certainly will be a long way from AAA...

Re: Advice on Off Road Rescue Gear

No one mentioned it but I would never go into a questionable road without a full size shovel. Here's my list so far: Shovel Gloves Duct Tape Recovery Strap* 2 ton scissor jack (in addition to stock bottle jack)* Rear Receiver Hitch (frame mounted)* 2 x Receiver insert w/D Shackles* Viair 85P Tire i...

Re: Going Stir Cray-Cray (the cool way to say "crazy")

I agree, Mike. Although my little expedition last week proved fruitless, it was great to get out in the backcountry and hike around. Noble Canyon was a very cool little hike. Some beautiful patches of manzanita that the trail cuts through. Looks like rain in the forecast for Friday and Saturday. John

Re: Advice on Off Road Rescue Gear

Mike, Probably just my 2WD Ranger. Most sources I've found say a high clearance 2WD should not have a problem. I'm more concerned about crossing the San Rafael just before Mike's Sky Rancho. I'm looking into best way to hook up to truck if necessary. What's the brand of your strap and how long is it...
