Re: When Do You Stop?

I still find it satisfyingly to get out and catch local wild trout, even 6" trout. The thrill for me is the exploration, getting away, the hike, and the fish are icing on the cake. Researching a local blue line extensively online then going there in person and finding water + fish is a great ex...

Re: LA River Delicacy

Were they actually spawning or could they just be in feeding frenzy on a hatch? I have zero clue. I was stuck on shore and couldn't get a good look, but there didn't seem to be any hatch that i could see. More importantly, when the carp are feeding on the surface, you can see their lil round mouths...

Re: LA River Delicacy

Yuck.
That guy is dialed in on the urban carp action though. The LA River carp scene is interesting. Caught several on conventional, but no luck - yet - on the fly.

Re: Is it Worth It?

San Gabes: Lot of spots closed due to the damage from Bobcat Fire previously. However, EF is still open and still producing. Fished it myself and have seen plenty of reports. Still crowded and popular at times. Streams to the east of it also open. San Berns: Several streams under closure from El Dor...

Re: Ca Forests Re-Open

Eager to get back out there.

A friend who was not aware of the closure was stopped while offroading in the San Bernardino's. Ranger provided some helpful education and let them off with a warning only. Glad to hear they are actually enforcing the closure.

Re: All California National Forests Closed

I saw this posted elsewhere - the sentiment that the complete closure of these public places represents essentially an affirmation of failure on the part of the natural resource management under the Forest Service/Feds. That is is basically saying we can't manage this with our current resources, so ...

All California National Forests Closed

https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/r5/news-events/?cid=FSEPRD949139 Similar to last year, Cali's National Forests are now closed due to fire concerns and dry weather. We discussed this last year, after the labor day fires; seems they have taken the prophylactic response this year. Going to have to cance...

Re: LA Times Article- Arroyo Seco Trout

Bear Creek drainage of Arroyo Seco is supposedly one of the holdover spots. Might be worth checking out.

Re: LA Times Article- Arroyo Seco Trout

Interestingly, this is right on the heels of the announcement that the Arroyo Seco "trout scout" had caught a few rainbows back there. I don't know if they were aware at the time that the West Fork San Gabriel fish had been transported to the same creek. Video of the announcement: https://...

Re: I made a fly fishing video game

It's been a minute, but I finally brought this game to iTunes. It's optimised for iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Super stoked as it is trending at #5 in Sports at the moment (#3 in Canada) on the iTunes charts. Big honor for it to do so well and for the support from angling and gaming community. iTu...

Re: The SGs [WFSG]

Wow. Ok, mad props to you that you could recover that quad. You had some serious distance going with it when it lost connectivity and attempted RTH and those hills are no joke. I think newer DJI models have an obstacle avoidance system that is on even during RTH operations, enabling it to avoid tree...

Re: The SGs [WFSG]

Great report.
Retrieving an errant drone near beehives and rattlesnakes in thick brush was one of my least-favorite drone experiences.

Re: Short rods- 6'- 7'

I have a 5ft and a 6.5 ft rod for local small creeks.
They work great, and are very easy to handle amidst the brush choked creeks I frequent.
That being said, I'm not expert :)
