Re: SIMMS Freestone or Redington Sonic Pro

Try the waders on first of course, it may be a moot point. I always thought, in the back of my mind, that at some point I would go down the Simms-hole for waders, but when they were closing out the Blackfoot model, I found none of the sizes fit me well. Legs were too tight for comfort. when the legs...

Re: Advice on Off Road Rescue Gear

Those "red Jeep style jacks" are dangerous from what I've read. Hi-Lift is the main brand and they work really well, but your vehicle must be able to accept them with reinforced lift points. And from what I've read, you should practice beforehand and view all warning material. They have a ...

Re: Info needed: Fresno area, Wildwater

If i remember correctly (it's been years since i was last visited), there are two or three ponds you walk past/between as you head to the waterslides. i've seen a few people fishing them but never stopped to see if they caught or were catching. it's too hot to stop. the main attraction are the water...

Re: Echo Glass

I like how they chose to use a down-locking reel seat.

Lightweight hiking shoes?

unlike Brian, I just don't play well with Keens. the toe design just hurts. But i love my Teva Riva eVent hiking shoes. SO comfortable and hold up well. I wear them daily over all types of terrain. REI carries them but you can find them cheaper at amazon.

Re: Deal on a Purist 1

where do you see that it's a demo? just wondering because the listing reads: "This is a factory first product - not a second, demo or custom build."

Re: how do I counterbalance the rod for a lighter reel?

does it feel tip heavy as you wiggle it on the lawn without fly line out or under fishing conditions?

Re: Unhooking Trout

beyond crimping the barb it helps immensely to file down the barb area. obviously do this at home where it's much easier. i simply mount the fly in a vise and use a file from a cheap set of small files i picked up at harbor freight.

Re: Anybody know Jon Reed?

(chuckling...) yeah, i figured that out :-) i shot a photo of him and being a newspaper photographer, my editors wanted to run it for the following day, one editor wanted to include info on whether he caught anything. hence my inquiry. i was just hoping somebody knew him or he frequented this board....
