Re: About Water Volume

This is interesting, emphasis mine. In terms of water use, most of California’s roughly 8 million acres of irrigated agriculture uses 3-4 acre-ft per acre annually (520,000-700,000 basketballs per acre/year) each year totaling about 26 million acre-ft per year, or 4.5 trillion basketballs of water p...

Re: Is FFA Dead?

I still check in from time to time. I haven't fished much at all in the last several years. Kids, work, and life just gets so busy. I hate to say but I think the classic forum is kind of dying. Things like Reddit (and even facebook) do discussion so much better with conversation threading, notificat...

Re: Fall Colors - Planning Ahead

Should be decent timing in Bridgeport/Twin Lakes for all the colorful aspens and you can go check out the Kokanee run in Robinson Creek. It is neat for the fisherman and the sightseer alike.

Re: Backpacking Alone - A Solitary Experience, Or Am I A Mor

Well, I can't speak to solo backpacking. There are elements of it that sound appealing, but I haven't gone that route myself yet. Still, if I configure my equipment loadout assuming no sharing, This is what I use and need for about 3 days/nights, including bear storage (bearcan) and fishing gear. Fo...

Re: All California National Forests Closed

I saw this posted elsewhere - the sentiment that the complete closure of these public places represents essentially an affirmation of failure on the part of the natural resource management under the Forest Service/Feds. That is is basically saying we can't manage this with our current resources, so...

Re: All California National Forests Closed

Yeah - I think national forests may be done for septembers. It's a shame, but the summers are so hot and dry that by Late August there's no margin for error.

I hope we can adapt things to keep seasonal campgrounds, etc... open longer (or year round).

Re: The End of an Era?

Wonderful news. If there is any silver lining here, that surrounding area of forest should be fairly resistant to burning for quite some time now.

Re: America's First National Park

Dude, have fun Chris. We did Yellowstone last summer and it was fabulous. With kids in tow, it wasn't the best fishing situation for me, but I managed to toss a few flies. But my god, the park is just so expansive and unique. We had good success at the major attractions late in the evenings... they ...
