LA River Delicacy

Yuck. That guy is dialed in on the urban carp action though. The LA River carp scene is interesting. Caught several on conventional, but no luck - yet - on the fly. Fishing for Carp makes trout fishing look easy. It is frustrating at times fishing for Carp. LAR is an interesting place, fishing in h...

Is it Worth It?

Maybe I’ll 4x down to where SA and BC meet for a look around. Definitely let us know how that goes. Haven't been down there in ages. Last time I hiked down a good 3 to 4 miles and even got to an amazing waterfall. That whole area used to be awesome. 25 years ago, I would work at Keller Peak in the ...

Is it Worth It?

I would target carp if you are in SoCal. With fires and drought it has been hard down here. Make a run up to east side?

Where Did Everyone Go?

Thanks for posting. I have a few trip reports over the last 12 months I need to post. I was skunked fishing for carp last time I went out with Dray. I head to Mammoth area on Sunday to try the normal spots. I have been trying to call Ken’s In Bridgeport to try to book the ranch for a day, no one has...

OLD posts...

Thanks for sharing, it looks like we were fishing similar waters at that time. Some of those creeks I have not fished since fires hit the creeks.
It was great to read the reports.

The Water Explodes - how to land that fish

The best education for me has been fishing for carp. I have caught a good number on 4x to 5x, I have caught many others on heavier tippet. The ones on 5x were in small ponds and creeks. Fighting carp is all about patience especially when using lighter tippet. I have to keep calm as I normally mess i...

I landed my large trout on Kern with. Euro setup 10ft 3x that length was helpful.

The Water Explodes - how to land that fish

Darkshadow You are correct about checking knots. Additionally when fishing areas like LAR also check tippet for abrasions when your back cast can get nicked on concrete. Lost my largest carp close to 15lbs due to a nick on 10lb fluorocarbon. Luck is important caught a 7lb trout in NZ fish got into b...

The Water Explodes - how to land that fish

Initially I would want to know what what Ants do? Take a deep breath, make sure drag is not too tight. Let the fish run keep tension on line but don’t horse the fish. Hopefully you have a net with you and see if you can get the fish into a spot to net it. I remember catching 3lb trout on Upper Kern ...

Striped Bass in CA

Very cool article, I was wondering about the history of Stripers in NorCal, as I know they are not native to our coast.
